Joel Filsaime (born September 20, 1984), known professionally as J-Pimp is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter, and music executive. Filsaime is the founder and CEO of the independent label, D-Ploy Records, and has released multiple chart-topping freestyle and hip-hop albums. He is known for his blend of gangsta rap and freestyle rap and his innovative production technique.

Early life and education

J-Pimp was born on September 20, 1984, in Boynton Beach, Florida, United States. He later moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he became involved in the local hip-hop scene. J-Pimp developed an interest in music early and taught himself to write, record, and produce his own songs from a home studio.

J-Pimp was influenced by artists like Tupac Shakur, Twista, and Wyclef Jean. He pursued his passion for music along with his formal education and technical experience in audio engineering. He later established Loud Boys Studio and refined his production skills there.

Career

J-Pimp began his career in 2003 by founding D-Ploy Records, an independent record label in South Florida. He gained recognition for his self-produced hip-hop and freestyle rap tracks and developed a unique style influenced by artists like Tupac Shakur, Twista, and Wyclef Jean. His early work was released through SoundClick, and his songs frequently charted in the Top 50, often reaching #1 on the Freestyle charts.

J-Pimp partnered with Loud Boy Studio in 2005. He became a studio partner of Disc Maker and recorded, produced, and mixed music there. J-Pimp's debut independent album, The Average Joe, received positive reviews on digital platforms like iTunes and also earned a Billboard nomination, which further boosted his reputation.

J-Pimp in the 2010s expanded his influence and performed as a surprise guest at concerts for acts including Shai, Jon B, Silk, Public Announcement, and H-Town at the James L. Knight Center. His music videos, like "AllNite" gained attention on MTV and YouTube as well. From 2019 to 2025, he has made freestyle tracks that dominated SoundClick, Freestyle charts, and earned him a good reputation.
